Same patch as before but updated to work with r42235 (April 6, 2009)

This is simply an updated patch which works with the latest trunk. The primary
code of the patch is nearly unchanged from the previous version. The primary
difference is that this new patch modifies the recently added TypeTraits.h
instead of this patch creating TypeTraits.h itself. Thanks again to Zoltan
Horvath for helping test this and making a build patch.
