As Eric pointed out, the code (surprisingly) exhibits the correct methods for
accessing/modifying the class. They just don't work d-:

Catfish_Man pointed out in IRC that the element does, in fact, show the new
class in the Web Inspector DOM inspector, as well as in the Properties field -
it does not, however, show the new class in the Styles pane, and the class
doesn't apply in the actual document either.
