I tried this patch, surfed through some pages with UTF-8 and didn't see any
errors.

All of these worked ok for me (well, except the bits I don't have font support
for.. not many of those though):

It'd be great to get this cleaned up and in, dragging extra 14 MegaBytes of
unneeded (and pretty annoyingly built) libraries seems silly, specially in
mobile devices context.
