it would be useful to have an alternative to #2

radar reports:
You can't set the exact HTML source of your signature.  You can use the font
and color panels, drag and drop files, and copy/paste styled content.  

Please let us know if you could  reproduce if you remove
~/Library/Mail/Signatures and create the signature from Mail?
