This is looking good. I'd actually like to keep the old (non-Pango) font
backend code around in the tree so we can continue to do performance
comparisons and possibly make use of it as a fallback in certain cases. It
could also be useful for avoiding the Pango dependency in any new ports that
use Cairo but not Gtk+.
