After talking to Maciej on IRC, it seems that the Foundation classes (like
NSURLRequest) are actually doing the caching of this URL and then adding the
If-Modified-Since header on the subsequent requests which causes the server to
send a broken 304 response.  I will file a Radar bug for the Foundation caching
issue.

In the meantime, it may be prudent to evangelize the projecteuclid.org web site
administrator to fix the 304 response for their pages.
