Summary: Forms not populated in Safari with 420+ build
Product: WebKit
Version: 420+ (nightly)
Platform: Macintosh
URL: https://connect.apple.com/cgi-
bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/wa/promo?source=ADCLOG&cod
e=ADCLOG-NEX
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.4
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: Normal
Priority: P2
Component: Forms
AssignedTo: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
ReportedBy: apple at frinabulax.org
Safari no longer remembers form data for any form that Safari stores in its
saved form data-- the ~/Library/Safari/Form\ Values file. I have user rw
permission on the file and the directories leading to the file.
I use the latest nightly build pulled at 03:00 (US ET) each morning.
It does not show up in Safari using WebKit 418.9. It shows up in nightly build
WebKits and from source-built versions I make on my G5 iMac. I believe that it
may have begun with the latest update to Safari. I do not know for sure
because Shiira is my default browser, and I only noticed it recently when I had
to use Safari for a site that checks browser names and would not recognize
Shiira.
It does not show up in Shiira 1.2.2 with the nightly build or with 418.9.
It does not show up with passwords that Safari stores in the Keychain.
What happens?
When I surf to any page with an <input type=text ...> for which I have asked
Safari to remember the contents, the 420+ version does not populate the boxes.
If I exit Safari, remove the 'Form Values' file, restart Safari, go to a page
with <input type=text ...>, enter text in the boxes, the 'Forms Value' file is
recreated and grows each time I enter new text in a box. Safari shows the site
name in its list of sites for which forms data has been saved.
What I expect to happen
I expect the boxes in <input type=text ...> for these sites to be recalled, or
I expect Safari WebKit 419.8, Safari WebKit 420+, and Shiira WebKit 420+ each
to handle the situation the same way. This appears to be neither a WebKit nor
a Safari bug but one of an interaction between the two.
