Sorry, the last line of my original report was ambiguous.

I get the same behaviour with Safari and with MailPlane. Using the downloaded
webkit, focus does not seem to have switched properly to the text area after
clicking on reply. Special keys like 's' (star/unstar) do their GMail function,
others go in the text area, some others like delete don't do anything at all.
Once I click in the text area, everything is fine.

Using the system webkit with either program, everything works correctly.

I can repeat this consistently.
