Yes, commenting out the assertion makes the page load and work OK, albeit
slowly, at a first glance (it also doesn't crash in a nightly). However, there
are errors in the console:

(event handler):Maximum call stack size exceeded.
(event handler):Maximum call stack size exceeded.
...
