The regression appeared between nightly builds r14317 and r14333 and is still
present in r14345.

The attached reduction illustrates the problem.

It appears that the font size of the container and input fields are not the
same.
2 horizontally adjacent text input fields of width 14em and horizontal margin
of 1em do not total a width of 29em.

The reduction shows that spans with the same layout are correct.
