In the version of Safari which came with the 10.4.6 update, version 417.9.2,
the tab feature has been changed. Formerly, using the tab key would move from
text field to text field. Now it includes text fields, buttons and lists and,
although not stated, check boxes. Often when tabbing from a check box, Safari
will quit. Earlier versions did not exhibit this behavior as the tab only took
the user from text field to text field.
