Summary: Message list is displayed incorrectly and incompletely.
Product: WebKit
Version: 417.x
Platform: Macintosh
URL: https://messagecenter.mci.com/MessageCenter4/jsp/logon.j
sp?lang=en_US
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.4
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Layout and Rendering
AssignedTo: webkit-unassigned at opendarwin.org
ReportedBy: me at jory.org
There have been a number of issues with MCI's MessageCenter since the 10.4
upgrade, but most of them were QuickTime 7 related. I believe the QT7 bugs
have been sorted, but there is now a bug in display of the list of messages on
this website.
Background:
MCI provides to their MessageCenter (voicemail) customers a web-based InBox to
check messages. It has worked just fine under 10.3.x and earlier versions of
the Mac OS. Voicemail messages, once logged in, are displayed using an InBox
format reminiscent of an email box. One can click on a message from the list
and it will display details and provide a link to the audio file containing the
voicemail (in GSM-encoded WAV or Sun AU formats).
The Problem:
Safari 2.x (and other WebKit browsers) are not capable of displaying the
listing of new messages correctly, making it impossible to check more than 3
messages in a box containing more than 3. No matter how many messages are
supposed to display, only the bottom three ever show. (Safari 1.3 can provide
proper behavior. Firefox is also capable of reproducing the list properly,
although it has other issues in the message detail display.)
Replicating the Problem:
The hardest part with replication of this problem is that it requires you have
access to an MCI MessageCenter login with more than 3 voicemails. I don't know
if MCI would be willing to provide one for testing use, but I'd be happy to
work with a developer to evaluate and squash this bug. Of course, any MCI
MessageCenter customer should be able to replicate the bug easily.
