Could you please file a new enchancement request, asking to implicitly perform
toString() on JavaScript objects returned via Apple Events? Another test case
to consider: 

tell application "Safari" to do JavaScript "new Array('Mercedes', 'Ford',
'Chrysler')" in document 1

Perhaps, an AppleScript list would be more suitable here than a string.
