I am not able to reproduce this following the instructions given.

Was there a specific story that caused problems, or did they all crash?

Did you have any version of Windows Media Player installed?  I have it
installed, and the videos played in the window.  Perhaps it crashed on your Mac
because you didn't have WMP installed.  (It should not crash the browser,
though!)

Were you logged into the CNN web site when you accessed the videos?  I did not
try to log in.

Trying the site in WebKit nightly build r12342, the pop-up window that normally
displays the video content gives an error page about not being able to detect
the version of Windows Media Player installed.  (NOTE: This might be a
REGRESSION!)
