Summary: TOT REGRESSION: Erratic JavaScript/DOM-related dragging
Product: WebKit
Version: 420+ (nightly)
Platform: Macintosh
URL: http://studwww.ugent.be/~ddfreyne/pub/webkit/1/wp-
admin/kaboom.html
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.4
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: JavaScript
AssignedTo: webkit-unassigned at opendarwin.org
ReportedBy: amonre at amonre.org
OVERVIEW
When dragging the sidebar items (see URL) in a nightly WebKit build, the
dragging behaviour is erratic.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1) Load <http://studwww.ugent.be/~ddfreyne/pub/webkit/1/wp-admin/kaboom.html>.
2) Drag one of the sidebar items (Categories, Discussion, Post slug, ...) up or
down.
3) Repeat 2) until erratic behaviour occurs. :)
ACTUAL RESULTS
1) Dragging the sidebar items doesn't seem to work all the time, especially
after having re-ordered the sidebar items before. "Does not work" because the
sidebar items refuse to be dragged and stay in place.
2) Sometimes, the drag operation seems to stop: the sidebar items "snap" into
place and refuse to move, even if the mouse is still pressed and moved far away
from the sidebar.
EXPECTED RESULTS
1) Dragging the sidebar items should always work. The item should be dragged up
or down.
2) The drag operation should not stop while the mouse button is still pressed.
Sidebar items *should* "snap" into place, but should "de-snap" when the mouse
is moved away from a +- 10px treshold area around the sidebar item.
BUILD DATE & PLATFORM
WebKit-SVN-r12322 (Tue Jan 24 3:54:18 GMT 2006)
ADDITIONAL BUILDS AND PLATFORMS
Non-nightly Safari has less erratic (i.e. correct) behaviour.
Camino and Firefox have similar behaviour to non-nightly Safari.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1) The summary is not formulated well, since I couldn't come up with a better
one.
2) This most likely needs a reduction. That test page is huge.
3) The problem described in this bug is very generic.
4) This bug may or may not be related to #6617 (uses the same "test case").
5) I don't even know whether the nightlies' behaviour is correct or not; maybe
WordPress' JavaScript code is wrong. However, the non-nightly Safari as well as
Camino and Firefox have different (more correct) behaviour.
