This bug does not occur in Safari-417.8, so it's a regression in TOT. The bug is probably in 
KWQKHTMLPart::findString, perhaps in this line:

    setSelection(SelectionController(resultRange.get(), DOWNSTREAM, VP_UPSTREAM_IF_POSSIBLE));
