If you click on "today's blog entry" on the upper right of www.davidpogue.com ,
for example, the behavior i've described in the summary will occur. 

This bug exists in nightlies from the end of Aug 06--though I've not checked to
see exactly where it started. The shipping version of Safari does not exhibit
this problem.
