This is a behavior of Cocoa NSSecureTextField, and it sounds like a bug to me.
Please file a bug via <http://bugreport.apple.com> (free registration required)
for Cocoa engineers to take a look.
For WebKit, this will hopefully be fixed with a switch to a native password
text field implementation.
