I'm sorry if I missed this in the discussion, but can you include information
in the ChangeLog about which benchmarks get faster any by how much?  Do any
benchmarks get slower?	(I'm assuming the goal here is to improve
performance---if there are other goals, it would be helpful to explain them in
the ChangeLog as well.)

I'm marking this patch R- for now because this patch doesn't explain the
relative benefits and costs of this patch.  I haven't reviewed the actual code
change in detail.
