I discussed this with Tomeu on IRC and he agrees async is surely wrong. He
mentioned plans for adding a new scope type for cases like this. libgdata
skipped their methods that are similar:

not sure what to do, I guess implementing that new scope type is the only way
out of this particular cross-road.
