I've attached a patch for this issue which streamlines the fixes from the
previous iteration, calls focus_in and focus_out at the appropriate times, and
properly handles Ctrl+U Unicode composition. After the review cycles are over,
I don't mind committing this myself, I'm eager to learn the process. :)
