Adressed the changes asked by Gustavo. Enabled symbolici icons only if
we build with GTK+3 so the GTK+2 requirement doesn't need to be
bumped, feel free to comment on that :)

About the signal callbacks I still fail to understand how to use
GClosures. Will poke Martin about it.
