I think as a side effect of working on official releases for OSX  it
would make it much easier to support porting efforts to other OS's
since they can target the release points.   I'd also like you to
consider how you would accept porting efforts into the svn tree
earlier rather then later to allow more of a community to develop
around a particular port.
