I haven't been able to build webkit from the the anonymous cvs repository for over a week. The error I get appears to be the same one mentioned in the build wiki "I get weird errors about being unable to find WebKitSystemInterface.h". However I don't see any problems with ~ in the "Build Product" path. I could copy the missing header as suggested, but this seems like a kludge. What's the real problem? It's hard to diagnose stuff like this over email; easier on IRC if you get a chance to visit there. But you can look in the "Deployment" directory inside your build results directory. There should be a directory named "usr" there and inside that "local" and inside that "include" and inside that "WebKitSystemInterface.h". The script "build-webkit" puts the file there. If the file isn't there, then there's something wrong with how "build- webkit" puts it there. If the file is there, then there's something wrong with how the WebKit project finds it. Make sure you have a clean tree with no changes to the project. One thing you might want to try is removing the "WebKit.xcodeproj" directory and then re-updating to get it back. -- Darin

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I've never used IRC. I can probably learn, although I have a low threshold for arcane commands.

I just double checked. The file is there.

I've done that. In fact I removed my build directory as well as all of the .xcodeproj files. No joy. I also cleared the SharedPrecompiledHeaders folder. That didn't change anything either. I could always blow away the entire project and redownload everything, but that wouldn't help find where the problem lies. I just had a thought. Could it possibly have something to do with my XCode preferences? Kurt

I recommend giving it a try. If you use a program like Colloquy there are very few arcane commands involved. -- Darin
I know all of two IRC commands and didn't use either of them to get Colloquy configured for WebKit IRC. There is very little to learn. Here is a very brief summary of the settings you need: - You make one new Connection (cmd-n) with server=irc.freenode.net port=6667. - In the connection inspector I have both my username and nickname set to "trey2", and I set the "Real Name" field to be my full name. - Also in the inspector's "Automatic" tab I have "#webkit" entered in the "Join Rooms" list. Others know way more tricks, but that was all I needed to get on. Jump in! trey On Jul 31, 2005, at 7:29 PM, Darin Adler wrote:

I figured out the problem. Your build product directory name has a space in it, and our project doesn't have the right quoting. I'll fix it now.
I tried to fix this by adding proper quoting. Unfortunately, it looks like this is a bug in Xcode rather than in our project. You'll have to chose a name for your build products directory that doesn't have a space in it. Sorry! -- Darin
Yes there was a bad build setting quoting bug introduced with Xcode 2.1. Apple knows of the issue — we ran into with Colloquy (along with many other developers). — Timothy Hatcher » colloquy.info On Jul 31, 2005, at 10:27 PM, Darin Adler wrote:

Ah ha! Of course this leads to step two of debugging "how did it ever work?" I've been using that product directory name from the beginning. On the other hand, it probably does explain why I have an extraneous folder called "Build"! Thanks for your time. Kurt PS As I recall I used that name (Build Products) because some instructions told me to. I don't recall if it was for webkit thought, might have been something else. Darin Adler wrote:

It worked before because xcodebuild was converting the project file each time. After the switch to Xcode 2.1 project files (when this started failing for you) the project didn't need to be converted anymore. As it stands, Xcode 2.1 has a bad quoting bug that makes quotes for paths disappear if the project is built multiple times. — Timothy Hatcher » colloquy.info On Jul 31, 2005, at 11:22 PM, Kurt Kohler wrote:

I see. I incorrectly assumed that because I've been using 2.1 all along that that wouldn't be the problem. I forgot that the project files changed. The timing seems right. And webkit now builds again! The crowd goes wild! Timothy Hatcher wrote:
